Maurizio's Tower

Maurizio's Tower is a historic clock tower located near Orvieto's beautiful cathedral, the Duomo.  It was built in 1348 and is one of Italy's oldest clock towers.

At the time of its construction, there was no mechanical clock.  Instead, a sundial was used to track time.

During the construction of the Orvieto Cathedral, the clock in Maurizio's Tower was used to mark the work schedule.

Sitting on top of the tower is a bronze statue named "Maurizio".
